A RESILIENT carer has been nominated for a Worcestershire Health & Social Care Award.

Dawn Mills, who works for Endurance Care at the Favor House assisted living facility in Kidderminster, has been nominated for The Care Hero Award.

Dawn, 49 has worked at Favor House providing care for others since she was 16.

She was nominated for the award by her colleague Kelly Smith, who lives in Worcester.

Kelly said: "Dawn has had a difficult year and contracted Covid-19 herself.

"Yet she has given 200% to her job all of the time.

"She has worked extra hours - sometimes even moving in for a few days at a time - to maintain regular safe staffing and consistent support to the adults we support who have learning disabilities.

"She has continued to provide a fun and safe home environment for the people we support ensuring they remain safe, well, and most of all happy despite the restrictions.

"She has maintained consistent support to keep anxieties and challenging behaviours low by being there for six days a week at times."

Dawn said: "It's lovely to be nominated.

"We all work hard, it’s not just me, and everybody is here to support eachother and the people we look after.

"We support the residents with everyday activities, and it hasn’t been easy with the pandemic, but like I said we are a good team, and we all rally around eachother and we are there to support eachother."

On what it would be like to win the award, Dawn said: "It’s nice to be nominated but if I won it would be amazing because it would show how hard we all work and it wouldn't be just for me, it would be for everybody here and it would be really appreciated."

The nominations deadline for the Worcestershire Health and Social Care Awards is Monday, April 5 at midnight.
