NATIONAL Asparagus Day came to Evesham this week, with a special thanks to the areas care workers.
As a special thank you, the first cut round of asparagus was delivered to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, with chief nurse Paula Gardner on hand to receive nearly 1,000 asparagus spears from Gus the Asparagus Man.
This will now be distributed among the hospital's staff.
Worcestershire Royal was chosen because of the British Asparagus Festival's roots being in Evesham.
The two-month asparagus season started on April 23 and the Fleece Inn at Bretforton saw the Asparamancer make her predictions for the years ahead.
After this, the asparagus was taken to the hospital for the handover.
