Worcester could be set to experience another heatwave, experts say.

Forecasters have predicted that an African plume will bring another heatwave to the UK later this month with temperatures in mid-August expected to reach the high 20s.

While some experts have said it may be too soon to be making such claims, the signs are that high pressure will bring drier and hotter air to England.

Stephen Dixon, a spokesman of the Met Office, confirmed: “There is some unsettled pictures for the week ahead. This theme continues into next week.

“Looking further ahead is where we begin to see slightly higher pressures suggesting warmer than average temperatures.

“It is difficult to say where the plume will come from but it is likely that high pressures are on their way.

“However, there is a continuing risk of some thundering downpours however this shouldn’t affect Worcester.”

This news comes as it is revealed that last month was the fifth hottest July in the UK on record.

Brian Gaze, a forecaster at Weather Outlook, told the Express that high pressure from the Azores could cause temperatures to reach the upper 20s.

He said: "There are tentative signs of an improvement in the weather during the middle third of August.

"High pressure may build towards the UK from the Azores, but there is a lot of uncertainty about this.

"If it happens temperatures in southern and central areas could climb towards the upper 20Cs and in the north the mid 20Cs."

"Temperatures should be above average when aggregated over the period as a whole. In the second half, the chance of settled and very warm periods increases.”

According to Met Office, thunderstorms are forecast in Worcester on Wednesday, August 4 and Friday, August 6 with yellow weather warnings announced for other parts of the country.

Forecasts provided by Weather Outlook show Worcester as having temperatures consistently above 20C for the next 16 days however this is subject to change.
