Worcestershire may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of silver screen blockbusters but it may surprise you to know the county has appeared in countless flicks.

Some of cinema's biggest names have featured in movies filmed in the county including Emma Thompson, Cameron Diaz and Anthony Hopkins.

Here are five films with star-studded casts that were filmed in the Worcestershire.

1 - Enola Holmes (2020)

Arley Station, in Bewdley, is arguably the county's most famous filming location, playing host to a wide range of motion pictures.

Most recently Arley was transformed into the station of Ferndell for the 2020 Netflix film Enola Holmes which tells the tale of Sherlock’s younger sister, featuring Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown.

2 - Faintheart (2009)

One of the more unique films out there, Faintheart was created as the result of a collaborative effort with online social network Myspace, which was used to build the cast and soundtrack.

The cast features Trainspotting’s Ewen Bremmer along with Jessica Hynes of The Royle Family and Spaced fame.

The leading role is played by Eddie Marsan, who also appears in Mission: Impossible III, The World’s End, War Horse and Hancock.

Several locations from across the county are featured including Nunnery Wood High School, Worcester Crematorium, the Cardinal’s Hat and County Hall.

3 - Howards End (1992)

Another train station, this time Bewdley, which became Hilton Railway Station for the 1992 film Howards End.

Much like the other films on this list, the romantic drama features a number of world class actors.

Anthony Hopkins, Emma Thompson, Vanessa Redgrave and Helena Bonham Carter have CVs far too big to try and pick out just one performance, and all feature in this movie based on a 1910 novel of the same name.

4 - The Holiday (2006)

While this iconic Christmas flick is synonymous with the village of Shere in Surrey, it may surprise you to know it was also partially filmed near Worcestershire.

According to IMDB various scenes were recorded on the roads of Great Wolford, Warwickshire, not far from Stratford-upon-Avon.

The star-studded cast includes Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Jack Black and Cameron Diaz.

5 - Benediction (2021)

The last film on this list hasn’t been released yet but is scheduled to be released later this year.

Benediction tells the story of Siegfried Sassoon, featuring both Jack Lowden and Peter Capaldi as the wartime poet.

Lowden is known for his role in Dunkirk while Capaldi is an icon of British film and TV, starring in Paddington, The Thick of It and Doctor Who.

According to IMDB filming has taken place in Kidderminster.
