The end of the summer holidays is nearing and with many parents running out ideas (and pennies) for things to to do, here are five free activities to enjoy as a family.

The Elephant Art Trail, Worcester

Worcester’s Big Parade will be showcasing the 66 elephant sculptures till Sunday, September 5. Maps are available for the six mile trail from points around the city, including Worcester Tourist Information Centre, Crowngate Shopping Centre and the Worcester’s Big Parade pop-up shop – located on Broad Street in the city.

This garden centre offers an indoor and outdoor play area experiences for children to enjoy for free. Parents can enjoy lunch in the restaurant whilst the little ones play or take advantage of their recently refurbished outdoor play area, which can be located at the end of the Garden Plants department.

Cob House Country Park, Wichenford

This country park offers the visitor something different. Set in 45 acres with 9 fishing pools, families can visit the animals such as reindeer, alpacas, pigs, rabbits, chickens, ducks and quails - completely free of charge.

The Hive, Worcester

Worcester's £60 million library, which was opened by The Queen back in 2012 - has a vast range of free activities for the kids. Some of these weekly events are:

  • Rat-a-tat Tales interactive storytime, which runs every Saturday & Sunday at 11am and 2.45pm and every Wednesday at 2:45pm.
  • Baby Bounce and Rhyme are sessions aimed at parents and carers to come along for free with their 0-1 year olds. The sessions run every Friday 11.00am to 11.30am.
  • Bounce and Rhyme is a music making session for children aged between 1 and 4. The sessions run every Tuesday for parents to come along with their little ones between 10.00am and 10.30am.
  • Chatterbooks at The Hive, is a book club aimed at 8 to 12 year olds. Activities and fun literary games will be ready for visitors the second Monday of each month between 4.45pm and 6.00pm.Evesham Journal:

Worcester City Art Gallery and Museum, Worcester

The city's museum hosts a vast range of free activities for the kids, as well as free entry. Open between Monday to Saturday between 10.30am – 4.30pm, the museum regularly hosts free trails for the children to take part in.
