A FLAG was raised in Worcester to mark the appreciation for emergency workers on emergency services day.

The flag was raised at County Hall yesterday morning to show support for those working in the emergency services and the NHS.

Councillor Steve Mackay was at the ceremony. He said: “I’m really proud and privileged to see the Emergency Services flag flying high above County Hall on this national day of support and reflection.”

Cllr Mackay emphasised how moved he felt about the day as he himself is a former member of the emergency services.

"I’d call on everyone to take a moment to support my fellow police colleagues and the other services that support those who require their assistance and reflect on those that have very sadly lost their lives in the line of duty.”

Also there was the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, Brigadier Roger Brunt. He said: “On behalf of the Lord-Lieutenant it is an honour to support this recognition of the courageous and unstinting contribution made by the Emergency Services to public safety.

"We, as a community, are served by dedicated and professional women and men who put our best interests first, often at the cost of their own. Reflecting on their commitment and service is a source of great pride and gratitude.”

The ceremony had a greater resonance this year after 18 months of the Covid pandemic, which saw the county's emergency and health workers called to help with the effort to keep people safe and well.
