TOWNS and villages across Wychavon are preparing to hold their Remembrance Day events this weekend.

In Droitwich, the procession meets at Ombersley Street East underpass near the Westcroft Pub around 10am until 10.15, when the parade moves off to Victoria Square for the ceremony itself.

The civic group meets at St Richard's House at 10.20am and then will move to the Baptist Church in Ombersley Street, where the mayor will take the salute as the parade moves past the war memorial in Victoria Square.

The whole event then comes together at the memorial itself at 10.45am where a two-minutes silence will be held before the Last Post is played.

After this, the procession moves on to St Andrew's Church for the 11.30am Memorial Service.

Evesham will not host a church service due to ongoing concerns around the Coronavirus pandemic.

Vicar of All Saints Church, Andrew Spurr, confirmed that for the second year running there will be no church service as any event would require restrictions on who could attend which he felt is not in keeping with the spirit of Remembrance Day.

There will however be a parade, with uniformed organisations and ex-service personnel set to meet in the Market Square at 10:15am before the parade sets off around 20 minutes later.

The procession, led by Avonbank Band, will head down Bridge Street to the War Memorial via the Crown Courtyard and Abbey Park.

Meanwhile, town councillors and other invited guests will meet at the town hall where they will set off from at 10:50am.

All parties are scheduled to arrive at the memorial no later than 10:56am before the Last Post is sounded just before 11am prior to the two-minute silence.

In Pershore, the Remembrance Sunday service will be a ticketed event as a result of the Covid situation.

The service will begin at 10.40am following Eucharist and will also be streamed on YouTube.

A number of roads will be closed across Wychavon on Remembrance Sunday itself.

The A4133 from the junction of the A449 south of Ombersley will be closed from 10.30am to 11am and to St Andrew's Church from 11.40am to 12pm.

Ombersley Street East will be closed from the junction with Colman Road to Victoria Square from 10.30 to 11am and Victoria Square to the roadway and paved area from 10.30am to 11.30am.

St Andrew's Street will be closed from 11.10am to 11.30am.
