Scaffolding in Pershore poses a danger to schoolchildren say councillors.

The metal frames were erected at Hardings Court, on Head Street, several years ago but now councillors have said enough is enough.

Councillor Chris Parsons MBE expressed his concerned for children’s safety as the Pershore Town Council meeting on Thursday, November 18.

He said: “That scaffolding has now been in place between five and six years with little to no work going on in the building.

“It is obstructing the path, which is a main route that children use going to and from school.

“There is definitely a safety issue as they are having to walk in the road around the scaffolding.

“We are forcing these children to walk in the road with oncoming traffic.”

He added: “I can accept that work needs to be done but this is unacceptable.

“I would just like to make it clear to residents that the council is concerned about the problem and we are taking action to tackle it.”

Councillor Dan Boatright acknowledged the issue and suggested how they can begin to deal with it.

He said: “Has anyone been hit by a vehicle? I am not saying I agree with it but it’s the reverse risk assessment you get with these types of situations.

“I propose we write to the chief executives of the County Council and Wychavon District Council.”

Fellow councillor Val Wood added that it is not just children who are affected by the works.

She said: “I have a friend who lives in Agatha Road who is less abled, and they really struggle with it.

“Do we really have to wait until someone is injured or killed?”

The property belonged to Rooftop Housing before they sold it in 2019.

A Harding’s Court property is listed as for sale on the Reeds Rains website however the estate agent has said they are “unable to comment” on the situation.
