A popular pub is looking to combat loneliness in Evesham this Christmas.

Wychavon District Council has announced that the Valkyrie Bar will be opening on Christmas Day.

In an effort to make sure people do not spend the day alone, the live music venue in Market Square will be open between 12pm and 3pm, offering free hot drinks, mince pies and biscuits.

A staff member of the Valkyrie said: "Following on from The Valkyrie Bar being a safe place whilst out in Evesham if anyone is in trouble, we wanted to expand on this and thought Christmas is one time of year when many people are alone and even an hour or two of company with strangers means a lot.

"Being able to get out of your house for a cup of tea and a mince pie could completely change the way someone would feel mentally giving them some Christmas spirit, which everyone deserves.

"So Katrina and Steve decided to open up The Valkyrie on Christmas Day to do exactly this. We are offering free tea and coffee along with a mince pie and biscuits.

"The Valkyrie is also decked out with over 12,000 lights inside and outside, just to make it that bit more Christmassy and magical."
