An Evesham Town councillor has resigned, reportedly because of Jim Davidson.
Emma Haynes is thought to have resigned following the decision to include a discussion of the controversial comedian on the agenda of Monday’s council meeting.
The council included this on the agenda following concerns that Mr Davidson’s “perceived racist and sexist material” could breach the Public Order Act 1986, which makes the use of threatening, abusive or insulting words to cause harassment, alarm or distress a criminal offence.
Mayor of Evesham, councillor Sue Amor, thanked Ms Haynes for her service.
She said: “I am really sad that Emma has resigned from the council but totally respect her decision.
“I will miss her presence at Council meetings but will still be consulting her for her sensible advice.”
At Monday’s council meeting, councillors unanimously agreed to hold no opinion on Mr Davidson’s upcoming shows in the town, with several stating that the topic was not worthy of discussion.
