Cryptocurrency can now be used to pay for journeys in and around Evesham.

Local firm, Air Taxis Evesham, has announced it will now accept Bitcoin for its services.

The service has been run by Iain Burgess since 2017 and he is excited to see the new form of payment introduced.

He said: "Whilst I'm personally new to cryptocurrency, I've had a few of my customers request to pay with bitcoin.

“After a little research I realised it was an easy, safe and surprisingly quick way to receive payment.”

He added: “I think Bitcoin is probably here to stay. Technology seems to be a one-way street and as long as its allowed, I think it’s best to embrace it.”

Bitcoin can be used to pay journeys through the Trust Wallet mobile app.

According to Air Taxis, cryptocurrencies are based on “blockchain technology” that removes the need for a third part-intermediary such as a bank to verify a transaction.

Mr Burgess continued: “Whilst card payments are always welcome, receiving payment via bitcoin allows me to save on the transaction fees banks usually charge.

“This means I can pass on savings to my customers."

At the time of writing, one Bitcoin equates to £28,594.80.
