A controversial comedian is coming to Worcester this month for two shows.

Roy Chubby Brown will be appearing at Huntingdon Hall for two shows on March 17 and March 18.

He has gained a reputation for performing widely controversial comedy, wearing multi-coloured outfits and his trademark aviator hat.

The comedian was previously due to appear at a show in Sheffield last month, at Sheffield City Hall, but the event was cancelled after the Sheffield City Trust said it did not reflect its values.

The decision provoked a backlash with more than 32,000 people signing a petition to get it reversed and a protest planned for the city on Friday in support of the veteran comic.

When the news broke that the show was to be cancelled, the comedian took to Facebook and said: "I have been performing at the City Hall annually for the last 30 plus years and have always had great nights there and a wonderful working relationship with the management and staff at the City Hall, and my fans have always come along and supported me in their thousands through the years.

“Now in these strange times of snowflakes and political correctness it has been decided that I am no longer welcome.

"I just want to make it clear that it’s not the good people of Sheffield who want me banned.

"And I am so grateful for all their support and everyone else’s support around the country.

"Once again thank you. Chubbs."

Worcestershire had another case of a comedian's shows potentially being cancelled in January when Jim Davidson's events were questioned at an Evesham Town Council meeting.

The town council put the matter on the agenda after concerns were raised about Davidson's perceived sexist and racist material.

Some councillors demanded to know who had called for the motion to be added to the agenda after saying the matter should not have been debated at all.

Tickets for the event are available to purchase on the Worcester Theatres website.
