The committee behind an amphitheatre coming to the Vale of Evesham is making one final push for funding.

Church Lench will soon be home to the Lenches Amphitheatre, a 250-seater outdoor arena

The committee behind the project say it is the final phase of a 20-year-long, community-fuelled, dream.

Committee member Louis Hancox said: “This is such a unique and exciting community project, and we are in the process of fundraising to support the build which is taking place this year.

“The Lenches Amphitheatre is a unique and exciting modern amphitheatre for the arts, set into the natural curve of the land

“The 250-seater venue will provide a superb amenity for the villagers, bringing theatre and live music to The Lenches, not to mention a fantastic spot to watch the cricket on a Saturday afternoon!

“This iconic outdoor venue will be a wonderful asset for the wider community, drawing a variety of performers and a multi-generational audience from far and wide.”

The amphitheatre will be built alongside The Lenches Sports and Recreation Club, offering “spectacular” views across the Avon Valley.

A new building to the right of the amphitheatre will provide a green room, with flexible space for a bar and wide glass doors opening onto a balcony.

Funding for the project has come from a Wychavon Community Legacy Grant to the tune of £95,000, along with donations from local businesses.

However, more money is still needed, prompting the committee to hold an Auction of Promises at the Lenches Club on Saturday, March 26.

All profits from food sold on the night, and all proceeds from the auction and raffle, will go to the new venue.

Auction lots include a two-night stay for four people in a cottage on the river Wye, two tickets to the Goodwood Revival Meeting, and a balloon flight for two people taking off from The Lenches Sports Club

Ms Hancox added: “Local businesses and individuals have been incredibly generous, donating a huge range of lots on which to bid.

“We feel there is something for everyone, whether you are looking to treat yourself or your loved ones, try a new hobby, or maybe looking to tick something off your bucket list!

“In addition to those listed in the catalogue, some lots will be made exclusively available on the night and will only be biddable if you are in the room!”
