Evesham pupils have litter picking at their schools and across the town to help clean up the community.

386 children have taken part in spring cleaning their school and Evesham community areas finding some vintage litter dating back 33 years.

The campaign was launched in mid-march 2020 and has educated over 2393 children on the litter course, with free educational sessions provided in schools by Wychavon District Council.

The sessions are run by Wychavon based company, Little Litter Warriors, and is funded as part of the campaign.

The children were taken on the litter hunt by Keep Britain Tidy’s litter heroes ambassador, Karen Blanchfield, who runs the little litter warriors educational workshops.

She said: “The children’s enthusiasm inspires me to continue raising litter awareness and the damage litter has on the environment.

"I’m delighted that many schools across the Wychavon are supporting our district's anti-littering campaign."

Pupils from Swan Lane First School, Church Lench First School and Vale of Evesham school have collected over 30 bags of litter in March.

Cllr Tony Rowley, Executive Board Member for Climate Change, Environmental Policy and Regulatory Services on Wychavon District Council, said: “Our anti-litter education sessions are delivering an important message in a fun and engaging way.

"We also hope adults will be inspired by the commitment of our younger residents to helping keep our district clean and tidy and will be prompted to do the right thing and dispose of their rubbish properly.

"We have over 1,000 litter bins available across Wychavon so there really is no excuse.”
