A ‘first of its kind’ shop is opening in Evesham this weekend.

Husband and wife team Marino Cretu and Maddie Kirby are looking forward to the first day of trading at Empty Jars, the town’s first zero-waste refill shop.

The new store aims to cut down on unnecessary packaging by asking customers to bring their own containers to fill with food, toiletries, cleaning supplies and more.

The couple said: “We find as consumers it is so hard to live without plastic and unnecessary waste and believe the best way to really solve this problem, is to prevent waste in the first place.

“We are really excited to be opening our first ever shop, Empty Jars, and hope that it will help us all to be kinder to the planet.

“With our first stock order, we have already saved hundreds of plastic bottles.”

The shop, at 8 Vine Street, will open for the first time on Saturday, April 30.

The couple is hoping to stock as much organic and local produce as possible.

They added: “Our laundry liquid, shampoos, conditioners, washing up liquids, detergents, and cooking oils all come from a circular economy which means that the big tubs from which you can dispense your liquids into your own bottles to take home, go back to our suppliers to be reused again.”

Customers are also encouraged to donate any spare bottles or tubs they have for other shoppers to make use of.

Empty Jars will open from Tuesdays to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and from 10am to 4pm on Saturdays.
