THE date for the inquest of a man who died in a Warndon house fire has been announced by the Worcestershire Coroner.

Peter Mezzone died in the fire at a flat in Randwick Drive on Thursday, April 28.

Friends have led tributes to the 81-year-old calling him 'funny and caring'.

The inquest has been scheduled for October 26 at Worcestershire Coroner’s Court in Stourport.

It is listed for a one day hearing, with it set to be heard by coroner Nicholas Lane.

Details for his funeral have also been shared – the funeral being held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Canada Way, at 10.30am on Tuesday, May 24.

Family and friends will then move to Worcester Crematorium.

Following the death, police issued a statement that said: "West Mercia Police attended a property in Worcester on April 28 following reports of a house fire.

"Officers can confirm that an 81-year-old man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to be treated for burns, but has now sadly died.

"Fire investigators are investigating the cause of the fire, however, initial enquiries suggest it was accidental. Next of kin have been informed."

Three fire crews, two from Droitwich and one from Worcester, attended the fire, and a Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham also attended landing on fields near Fairfield Day Nursery.

Tributes paid to Peter Mezzone

Joanne Brixton has paid tribute to Mr Mezzone writing: "I grew up in the deaf community.

"I knew Peter 40 years, he has been a long time friend.

"He was funny and caring.

"I want to thank all emergency personnel, and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for everything they did for Peter."

Among the tributes at the time of the death were ones from Michelle Pawley who said: "So so sad, a lovely man. Thoughts are with all his family at a very difficult time."

Elliott Church said: "Rest in peace. I live in flats nearby and was startled by the news."

Denise George added: "This is so sad he used to come into work to do his shopping. Lovely chap."
