MAJOR road closures and strange odours will plague a city estate as £1m sewage works are set to begin.

Severn Trent Water has announced that there will be at least 11 road closures as part of sewage upgrade works throughout Ronkswood.

Severn Trent Water also warned a "strange odour" may fill the air around the estate as work gets underway on Monday (May 23).

A statement from Severn Trent Water said: "Our team will start work commencing May, 23 and expect to be completed by early October 2022.

"The improvements we're making to the waste network will be carried out by either digging down and repacing old sections of pipework or by using a technique that will re-line the inside of the existing pipe.

"Re-lining can be achieved by parking a vehicle over a manhole whilst the machinery applies the new lining material.

"During the relining process, there is a small chance that you may experience a strange odour coming from your drain at home.

"This is nothing to worry about and will clear soon after lining work is complete."

As a result of the roadworks, Severn Trent Water has also warned that access to driveways may be restricted, with drivers needing to park elsewhere.

Timothy Ip from Severn Trent, said: “Every so often, we need to carry out essential upgrade works on our sewer network and we with the aim of reducing the number of flooding incidents.

“This is why we are investing a significant amount of money in Ronkswood to make sure local residents don’t experience this in the future.

“If the team are working near your property, access to your driveway may be restricted temporarily. We kindly ask that you park your vehicle outside the working area so the team can carry out the work quickly and safely.

“We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused by this and we’ll be doing everything we can to minimise any disruption during this essential work.”

The works are due to several parts of the sewage system not performing as they should due to their age.
