The local community banded together at Pershore and Evesham's respective Abbey Parks to enjoy some jubilee fun.

Despite the drizzle in the air, people got together to listen to live music and have their picnic in the park.

At Abbey Park in Pershore, a band called Shades of Grey, made up of Kevin Spittle and Keith Boulton, was entertaining the community as they ate their lunch and relaxed.

The pair performed throughout the afternoon, taking a quick break at one point for some hot food.

Jeanette Dowling attended the picnic with her husband and friends.

She said: “We only live around the corner so our husbands came out this morning at about 10am and set up.

"We came over just before the band started and we have the tents in case it started to rain, but so far it’s looking ok.”

Anita Griffiths came to the picnic with her family.

She said: “We’ve been here for about half an hour so far and it’s been absolutely lovely.

"The kids are really excited to go and play in the park afterwards but we’re going to sit here and have some lunch first watching the band.

Luckily for us the weather is holding out.”

Terry Wright, who came along with his wife, added: “It’s been a great afternoon so far, we’re really enjoying ourselves."

Over in Evesham, Abbey Park was also hosting live music while local residents set up camping chairs and brought food with them.

Evesham residents and PODS member, Eve Lynne, performed a variety of songs including A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman, Proud Mary, Valerie and many more.

Heather Hinsley said: "We were the first people here, we got here at 12pm.

"We didn't think anyone else was coming when we got here, it seemed like the weather had put people off."

Helen Springthorpe, who came along with her husband, said: "We thought we would come and support the event because the weather isn't great and we didn't think many people would turn up.

"A lot of work has gone into this so we thought the least we could do was come along and show support."

Hilary Steadman added: "It's just a shame about the weather - there's not much of a turnout.

"But the people here are having a lot of fun and hopefully more people will come out as the afternoon goes on."
