A Worcestershire primary school has been rated outstanding by Ofsted as the body recognised that the school is an inclusive community.

Harvington C of E First School was named outstanding by Ofsted in 2017 and has maintained its high standards.

Inspectors said: "Leaders have developed a curriculum that prepares pupils well for the next stage of their education and life in modern Britain.

"The school is an inclusive community. Pupils have a good understanding of all faiths and beliefs and celebrate different cultures.

"Disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities are included in all aspects of school life.

"They achieve well because they receive good-quality support. Teachers adapt the curriculum to meet pupils’ different needs."

Inspectors also found that pupils behave well and disruptions are minimal, they concentrate and persevere well.

Ofsted found that children's knowledge in various subjects is built up progressively and that teachers plan exciting and motivating tasks for the children.

They added: "Teachers do not consistently pick up and address common errors in pupils’ grammar, punctuation and spelling in their writing or their basic skills.

"This means that pupils continue to make the same mistakes and their writing does not improve as well as it should.

"Teachers’ expectations of how pupils present their work are sometimes not high enough.

"This means that some work is untidy and reduces the overall quality of pupils’ work.

"Leaders should ensure that teachers ensure pupils produce work which is neat and reflects pupils’ best efforts."

Headteacher, Helen Fishbourne, said: "We are delighted that the school has maintained our outstanding judgement status following our recent Ofsted inspection and this reflects all the hard work that the children, staff, and governors continue to undertake.

"Our parents are overwhelmingly positive about our school and I am privileged to lead such a tremendous and dedicated team who provide the very best education and experiences.

"It is an exciting place to be."

Chair of Governors, Chris Davies, said: “The Governors are really pleased with this report. Over the last two difficult years the school has done a magnificent job in giving children and their parents a stable and supportive environment in which quality learning has continued.

"High standards have been maintained and this is a well-deserved recognition of the outstanding work done by all of the staff."
