A FAMILY-owned shoe shop in Worcester is celebrating 150 years of being in Worcester.

Robin Elt Shoes has been in Worcester for the last 150 years, spanning five generations of family ownership.

The brand also has locations in Malvern, Pershore, Hereford, Leominster, Ludlow, Torquay and Totnes.

The Elt Family first began trading in 1872, with fifth-generation owner Jenny Elt, now serving as the managing director.

Jenny Elt said:" As the fifth generation of the Elt family in the shoe trade, I am very proud for our company to achieve this amazing milestone."

In 1872, Albert Edward Elt took over a small shop on Worcester’s High Street.

His Son Albert expanded the business into a larger unit in The Shambles in 1934.

After the Second World War Albert’s son Roy assumed full control of the family business, expanding to Church Street in Malvern in 1948, which also now holds the head office for the business.

Roy's son, Robin, came into the business in 1964, after learning shoemaking in Northampton.

In 1969, Roy merged his shops with the retail arm of Church’s Famous English Shoes, Jones Bootmaker.

Robin eventually became buying director for the whole group of 90 shops, but in 1991 he decided to resume independent retailing as Robin Elt Shoes and took back two of the stores, in Malvern and Leominster.

From there he continued to grow the business adding Hereford, Ludlow, Pershore, Torquay, Totnes and Worcester and a website.

To mark this occasion, the store is celebrating across all locations from Thursday, June 30 to Saturday, July 2.

The celebration includes a giveaway competition with prizes such as free shoes, a weekend break, hampers and handbags.

Jenny Elt said: "It would be amazing to see as many of our lovely customers in-store over the three days to help us celebrate this special occasion."
