Royalty returned to Pershore as the Plum Festival got underway.

Ten-year-old Isla Driscoll, a pupil at Cropthorne-with-Charlton First School, has been crowned Plum Princess after seeing off a record number of entries.

The special ceremony was held at the Angel Hotel on Plum Blossom Sunday, July 3, as a way of kickstarting this year’s Plum Festival.

The honour will see Isla represent the town and its plums for the entire year at various Festival events, including the race meeting at Worcester Racecourse, the Bike Nite, and the Fayre on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Sponsored by Thomson & Bancks, it was the first time Plum Blossom Sunday had been held for three years.

The day also saw eight-year-old Jenny Marks, of Cropthorne-with-Charlton First School, and 11-year-old Olivia Clark of Blessed Edward Oldcorne College crowned attendants.

Angela Taylor, chair of the Pershore Plum Festival, said “Thanks to everyone that made Plum Blossom Sunday such a great event, it is wonderful to be back.

“Congratulations to Isla, Jenny and Olivia with thanks to all our other contestants who did so incredibly well.

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to Pershore this Summer for plum-filled events and activities.”
