Thousands raised for charity as Evesham 10k returns

The Sheldon Bosley Knight Evesham 10k returned to the town at the weekend, following a two-year absence.

Staged by Evesham Vale Running Club and an army of volunteers, around 500 runners took to Crown Meadow on Sunday, July 10.

Run director, Bob Pope, said: “Evesham Vale Running Club are delighted to bring the 10k and fun-runs back to Evesham.

“A huge thanks to all volunteer marshals, pacers and helpers – most being Club members – without whom we could not make this happen.

“Thanks and respect to all our sponsors, whose generosity boosts the support the race can give to the vital work of our chosen charity partners”.

The overall men’s race winner was 19-year-old Henry James, whose time of 33 minutes and 13 seconds was almost as scorching as the day itself, with temperatures soaring well into the 20s.

Meanwhile, the ladies’ race was won by Marie Brush with a time of 39 minutes and 49 seconds.

With a minimum age of 15 to participate in the 10k, the event also had four different children’s mile races and fun runs sponsored by Canaccord Genuity, ensuring even the youngest athletes could participate.

The event also raised thousands for local charities with the running club presenting cheques of £2022 to both Evesham Adventure Playground and Caring Hands in the Vale.

The playground – in its 40th anniversary year will provide over 4000 meals to children during its summer playscheme alone, and intend to use funds toward a new cooker and kitchen refurbishment.

Meanwhile, Caring Hands is close to achieving a long-held goal of creating a drop-in centre, to be called The Lighthouse, offering support to individuals who are homeless.

The 10k was sponsored by local estate agents, Sheldon Boseley Knight.

Sales director at the firm, Christian Cloke completed the race in a time of 44 minutes.

“We are proud to sponsor this year’s Evesham 10K run, around the historic and beautiful town of Evesham,” he said.

“We all believe it’s important to be an active supporter of events such as this and delighted to see so many people enjoying the day”

Organisers have confirmed the race will return at the same time next year.
