A new water play area will soon be opening in Evesham.

Work on a £330,000 water play area in Abbey Park has gotten underway and is expected to be ready in time for next year's summer holidays.

The project is part of a £630,000 investment programme into Wychavon’s parks and green spaces that was recently approved by councillors.

The play area will include hydro blast jets, a water spider, a spray cannon, an archway with jets and a water curtain along with tipper buckets, an accessible wavy bridge, and a new seating area among other things.

Councillor Emma Stokes, executive board member for resident and customer services on Wychavon District Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see work start on the new water play area in Evesham and another example of how we continue to invest in our award-winning parks because we know how much people value them.”

Work began earlier this month and is expected to be completed by summer 2023.

There are also plans to replace water play areas in Droitwich and Pershore, which the council states are in “need of essential improvements and renovation”.

It is hoped that work will be completed in Pershore by Summer 2024, and in Droitwich by summer 2025.

Other projects in the pipeline, as part of the council’s £360,000 investment programme, include a new play area for St Richards Open Space in Evesham and improvements to Lawley Way Play Area in Droitwich.

There are also plans for a series of upgrades to footpaths and resurfacing in various locations.

The programme follows on from additional recent investments, including a new embankment slide in Droitwich’s Lido Park and the installation of table tennis tables in Workman Gardens, Evesham.
