The Evesham Mop Fair is 'worth the disruption', the town's mayor has said.

The popular annual event made its return to the town last week, with hundreds of people enjoying the rides, games, and food.

However, many residents raised concerns about the issues the funfair poses, including heavy traffic.

Councillor Mark Goodge, mayor of Evesham, believes the pros outweigh the cons and dismissed any notion of the event being cancelled in the foreseeable future.

"The Mop is an important part of the town's history, and it's still a key part of the town's social calendar," he said.

"It does create a bit of disruption, but I think it's worth it for the benefits it brings.

"I'm sure it will be here for as long as the townspeople want it!"

On traffic, councillor Goodge added: "It did seem to be worse this year but I think that was as much a result of the weather as anything else - it was wet on Friday so people were driving rather than walking into town.

"The fair organisers always work closely with the highway authorities to ensure that access along the key streets is maintained, and I'm sure that anything learned from this year will be included in next year's planning."

According to Evesham Bat Care, the Mop Fair also creates issues for the area's wildlife.
