A cancer-surviving footballer inspired his teammates to ditch their kit.

Pershore Town FC are releasing a calendar this weekend which will show the players in a way not many will have seen them before.

Members of the squad stripped down to their boxers for the calendar with all profits going to Testicular Cancer UK and Oddballs Foundation.

The idea came about after former first team player, Will Green, was diagnosed with the disease in 2019, aged just 23.

Thankfully, Will has since gotten the all clear but will continue to have checks every six months.

First team manager Danny Janes is delighted with the end product and the effort shown by his players.

The calendar looks absolutely fantastic.

“The project is such an amazing support mechanism for a really important message.

“I am proud to be part of a club that recognises the importance of elements in society that need further attention and drive.

“The players had been superb and forthcoming in volunteering their time to get involved.

“Pershore Town is more than just a football club, it is a community that is committed to making a difference.

“I look forward to seeing how much money is raised and I hope everyone enjoys the calendar.”

Captain Kirk Layton, who took part in the shoot, added: “The end product looks absolutely amazing and I’m grateful to have participated in such a great cause.

“We hope this will send out a statement on intent to #CHECKYOURPLUMS.”

Priced at £12.50, the calendar will go on sale this Saturday, October 8, with every penny going to the two chosen charities.

Everyone who helped put the calendar together, and a representative from Oddballs, will attend the Plums game with Calne Town FC, a 3pm kick-off.

All of the photos were taken by Susan Lloyd-Cowley, with print solutions firm Dolphin Tec covering print and paper costs.

Meanwhile Hughes & Company provided the wire binders and UK Loco Limited contributed the all-important Plums.

Jacqui Marler, club licensee and committee member, said: “I have to say putting the calendar together by hand was the hardest part of the process.

“Myself and Hayley Tomkins (club secretary) have been spending many evenings putting them together, but we are so happy with the end result, and I personally can’t thank everyone enough.

“The models included first team players, Sunday team players, managers and even one of supporters and they were all great and more than happy to get involved in this great cause!”
