Ramblers have fixed up a popular walking route in Evesham.

Evesham Rambling Club Working Party has been busy transforming the footpath on Clark’s Hill.

The project, which has taken over 13 months, has seen a set of natural stairs created to make the route safer for walkers.

Club member Glyn Hayter said: “The Working Party was tasked by Worcestershire County Council Public Rights of Way Team with installing a series of steps to improve the route.

“The final task, carried out in glorious spring weather and with firm ground underfoot for the first time, was to complete the installation of revetments and to add a stone surface to each step.”

The footpath, which slopes up and away from the River Avon by Hampton Ferry, forms part of three waymarked routes.

These routes are Shakespeare’s Avon Way and Evesham Vale Circular Walks four and five.

At the bottom of the bank, the path had completely disappeared under brambles and shrubs while the top section was well known for being muddy and slippery for much of the year.

The work party was made up of Louise and Patrick Green, Glyn Hayter, Adrian Peake, Dennis Skelcher, Phil Taylor, David Tyrrell, and Geoff Thould.

Using several wheelbarrows, they transported almost a ton of stone from School Lane to Clark’s Hill.

The end result is a series of 23 steps that the club is hoping will make life much easier for walkers and in the process, allowing them to enjoy the view towards the town.

Aside from this project, the Working Party carries out an extensive amount of footpath maintenance in the Evesham area.

This includes clearing vegetation, installing bridges and ditch crossings as well as kissing and pedestrian gates and waymarker posts.

Doing this ensure that all circular walk routes are kept in good order.
