A man heading for America had his suitcase stolen on the train to the airport.

The man, who didn’t wish to be named, said he was on a train heading towards Heathrow via Reading after getting on at Worcester Foregate Street.

It was after passing through Evesham he noticed his suitcase had gone, having left it in the luggage compartment.

“I kept looking back to check if it was alright,” he said.

“It must have happened in a split second when I was checking my phone.

The theft was reported to British Transport Police, who are investigating.

A spokesperson said: “At just after 12pm on Thursday, March 9, we received a report of luggage theft on-board a train travelling between Worcester and Reading.

“Enquiries into this incident are ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.”

The victim explained that while there was nothing particularly of value in the case, the inconvenience of it all almost ruined his holiday.

He said: “I had to go to America with just my hand luggage, thankfully I had my passport.

“I landed in Chicago where it I -10 with just the clothes on my back.

“It didn’t ruin the trip but it certainly didn’t help.

“My friend out there looked after me and I had to go to some stores to buy some cheap clothes.

“I just find it so annoying as none of it will be any good to them.”

He added that he feels there should be more warning in place at stations around Evesham, adding that he was told he is one of nine such thefts being investigated.

British Transport Police have not been able to confirm if this is the case.
