Excitement is building ahead of the return of the Medieval Market.

More than 130 living history performers will flock to Evesham later this spring for the fourth annual medieval market.

The town will be transported back in time with over 100 stalls filling the Market Square and grounds of Evesham Abbey.

Battle of Evesham director, Mick Hurst, said: “The market has really captured the imagination of local people and draws living history re-enactors from groups across the country.

“Similar to the main Battle of Evesham festival in August, we are also getting international exposure, with tourists from America and Europe placing these medieval-themed events in Evesham on their ‘must-see’ list.

“Many local volunteers and organisations have worked hard to put on a great market that provides insights into medieval life and our town’s role in events which shaped the modern world.”

The living history camp will include groups representing late-period Vikings and Norman soldiers from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries.

It will also feature iron forges, leatherwork, wooden crafts, needlework, mead making and cooking from throughout the ‘High Medieval Period’ of 1066 to 1485.

Alongside this will be armoured medieval knights and weapon demonstrations in the Battle Arena in Evesham Abbey Park.

The Abbey Cloisters and the recently landscaped Nave Garden will also be open to help members of the public imagine how the third largest abbey in England used to look in its heyday.

Meanwhile, the official Robin Hood Visitor’s Centre re-enactment team are heading over from Sherwood Forest, including Friar Tuck, Maid Marion, Little John and of course Robin himself.

Elsewhere in the town, St Lawrence’s church will host displays from local community groups, allowing them a free space to showcase their activities, attract volunteers and raise funds for their causes.

And last but not least, the market itself will take place in Market Square, with crafts, food and drink stalls showcasing some of the best local produce.
