Evesham’s historic Bell Tower is to be lit up pink, blue and yellow.

It will join landmarks across the world in doing so for International Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) Awareness Day.

CDH is a birth defect that affects over 52,000 children worldwide every year, occurring in one in every 1,500 pregnancies.

During gestation, the diaphragm fails to fully form often allowing abdominal organs such as the stomach, bowel, spleen, intestines, etc. to reach the chest cavity and put pressure on and restrict lung growth.

There is a 50 percent chance of survival with CDH and the cause is still unknown.

According to charity CDH International, the condition is as common as Cystic Fibrosis and Spina Bifida but has little awareness and very little funding.

CDH International has helped over 6,500 families across 74 countries, through patient services, raising awareness and funding, and participating in global research.

To help raise awareness of their work, Evesham Bell Tower will be lit blue, pink, and yellow on Wednesday, April 19.
