Wendy King of Offenham faces wait to learn sentence for racist abuse

Wendy King, of Main Street, Offenham, near Evesham, committed the offence on November 11 last year. 

Val Hart, prosecuting, said police attended an incident between King and her neighbours in Main Street. 

The prosecutor explained, despite King being told by police they would get her side of the story, the defendant became abusive. 

"She was clearly intoxicated, her speech was slurred," the prosecutor said. 

After continuing with abusive language King was eventually arrested.

Mrs Hart said King then used racist abuse to officer PC Shaquille Lakin, with the court hearing the offensive language she used.

In a personal statement from the officer, read out in court, PC Lakin said: "I shouldn't have to face racist abuse at work. 

"I'm saddened by it."

In her police interview King said had accepted she was a "nightmare" when she had been drinking. 

King also apologised and told police she was not a racist. 

King admitted the offence of racially/religiously aggravated intentional harassment/alarm/distress during her court appearance on April 6.

As Jason Patel, defending, began his mitigation the chairman interjected to say there was no need for him to continue as they would need a pre-sentence report in King's case. 

Chairman of the magistrates bench, Vicki Quarton, said the report should consider "all options" in regards to King's possible sentence. 

King was told to return to Worcester Magistrates Court on May 26. 

King, who was given unconditional bail, was told she must not commit any further offences. 

"You need to be very careful in these coming weeks," the chairman added.
