A BURGLARY suspect has been named by police.

Chris Keylock, 54 and from the Cleeve Prior area, was arrested on suspicion of a burglary at Asda in Pershore and the Coop in Winchcombe from earlier this year.

He was remanded and due to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates Court today (Wednesday).

DI Dave Knight of Proactive CID, based at Worcester Police Station, said: "Last night Proactive CID worked late into the night to secure two charges and a remand for Chris Keylock, a 54-year-old male from the Cleeve Prior area on suspicion of a burglary at Asda in Pershore and the Coop in Winchcombe from earlier in the year.

"He will appear at Kidderminster magistrates court later today."

DI Knight offered assurances to the public about how seriously house burglaries are taken by West Mercia Police.

He also stressed that the residential burglary figures include break-ins at garden sheds and other outbuildings rather than just the houses themselves.

DI Knight said: "We have a dedicated team of detectives purely looking to investigate home burglaries and lock up burglars.

"We have in the last week had 22 residential burglaries, compared with an average of 20 per week over the past 8 weeks.

"We are seeing a series of home burglaries in the Broadway and Wickhamford area at the moment.

"We have a plan in place to catch the offenders which includes activity in the area across a variety of police departments and the Community Safety Team from Wychavon Council.

"We are working on a number of leads at the moment including forensic work to identify and lock up the offenders.
