A COUNCIL is to reconsider bullying allegations against the mayor.

The Mayor of Pershore, councillor Matthew Winfield, was cleared of allegations of bullying and intimidation by Wychavon’s Member Conduct Committee.

This verdict came days after a majority of Pershore Town councillors voted in favour of a report by Wychavon’s monitoring officer which found he had breached the town council’s code of conduct.

Now, town councillors will reconsider their decision at a meeting on Wednesday, April 26, at the request of five members.

At the previous town council meeting, on April 12, a majority of nine to three councillors voted in favour of councillor Winfield accepting the findings of the report and writing a formal apology for his behaviour to the complainant.

The complaint which prompted the report was made by the recently retired town clerk, Ann Dobbins, following an incident on July 15 last year.

Mrs Dobbins claimed councillor Winfield became “quite intimidating” after asking for a folder which she said had not been agreed upon by the management group.

Wychavon District Council’s Member Conduct Committee then met on Monday (April 17) and voted unanimously to reject the recommendations of the report.

Reacting to this decision, councillor Winfield said: “I'm very pleased with the unanimous decision of the cross-party Member Conduct Committee who have found that I was not in breach of the Code of Conduct.

“I am not a bully, and I have never sought to intimidate anyone."
