The three boys arrested were two aged 17-years-old and one aged 13-years-old – they have been released on police bail.

Officers are carrying out enquiries and are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the boys walking between train station and local shops.

Chief Inspector Brian Gibbs said: “I would urge caution with carrying any item which may resemble a firearm in public. Even if it is an imitation, it may provoke a reaction from both members of the public and the police which is unintended and may end up in a criminal investigation.
