A HORSE was killed in a crash which closed a busy county road.

A woman was also taken to hospital after a car and horse and carriage crashed on the A46 Twyford roundabout on Saturday, May 20.

A spokesperson for Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service said it was called at just after 5pm.

“A crew from Evesham Fire Station attended the scene after the collision involving one horse and cart and a car with no people trapped.

“The horse was sadly found deceased in the carriageway.

“A female casualty from the car was left in the care of the ambulance service 

“The incident was left with the police by HWFRS at 5.57pm.”

Motorists were urged by West Mercia Police to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "One ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Midlands Air Ambulance Critical Care Car attended the scene. On arrival, we discovered one patient, a woman, from the car.

"She was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to the Alexandra Hospital for further treatment."

Shortly after 2am on Sunday (May 21) police announced the A46 roundabout had reopened.
