A POLICE officer will stand trial following a fatal crash.

Abigail Meyers, 29, has been charged with death by dangerous driving and death by careless driving.

Appearing at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Tuesday (June 20), PC Myers’ case was sent for trial at crown court.

This comes following an incident in Evesham on January 27 last year.

The police car Myers was driving while responding to an emergency assistance call was involved in a crash on Elm Road with a vehicle driven by 59-year-old Marcus Evans, who died at the scene.

An investigation was subsequently carried out by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

An IOPC spokesperson said: "At the end of our investigation in July 2022, we referred our report to the Crown Prosecution Service who subsequently decided to bring the charges after reviewing the evidence."

The trial will take place at Worcester Crown Court on July 18, subject to change.

Myers has been given unconditional bail.
