EVESHAM Town Council is to hold an extraordinary meeting tonight.

Councillors will meet to discuss a video featuring a town councillor that was circulated among the Evesham community last month.

The council has received "many complaints" as a result of this video.

"The content of the video has the potential to harm the reputation of the council and councillors of Evesham Town Council," reads the agenda for tonight's meeting, available on the council website.

"It is, therefore, necessary to take swift action to protect the council’s reputation and to distance it from the opinions and content expressed in this video."

The agenda continues, stating that the council has no power to sanction councillors and is limited to three actions.

"The council can issue a press release to distance itself from the comments made and to confirm its support for Ukrainian refugees, including those living in the Evesham community," it reads.

"They can also refer the matter to the Monitoring Officer as a Standards complaint.

"The council is also permitted to remove a councillor’s membership of committees and/or working groups."

Councillors will discuss the matter and decide what action to take.

The extraordinary meeting will be held at the Town Hall at 6.30pm.
