A PUB landlord who has only been in the trade for a year has been given another award.

Tom Doggett, landlord of the Red Lion in Evesham, started his career behind the bar after quitting his job as a marketing executive in August 2022.

A year after his career change, Mr Doggett now holds the title for the Evesham's Noticeboards Business of the Year award as well as CAMRA's New Landlord Achievements, which was awarded to him in March.

"It has all been beyond what was expected, and to get the CAMRA's New Landlord Achievements - it has been a rollercoaster," Mr Doggett said.

"It happened all over the last year, and I never ran a pub before apart from being a regular visitor.

"It is slightly mindblowing, but a big part of it is having a good team around me."

He added that he was almost speechless that both awards he won did not even involve him applying for them.

Mr Doggett first had the idea to take over the Red Lion after hearing the previous landlords say they were retiring.

He thought: "what is the worst that could happen" and quit his job in marketing to pull pints for the local community.

Since taking over on August 1, he has been focusing on encouraging bands to play in his pub and selling locally sourced alcohol, all within a 35-mile radius from the pub.

Mr Doggett will be celebrating his first year in the trade with a traditional folk night on August 1 and will also have Morris dancing in Market Place from Bow Brook Border Morris and Belle D’Vain Northwest Morris.

The pub will also have a large range of food and has invited local breweries and suppliers to join in on the fun.

Mr Doggett said all were welcome to join in on the anniversary celebrations.
