A DELI labelled one of the best places to eat this summer said it is thrilled with the news after experiencing an "uphill battle" of getting people to understand the concept.

The Times named D’Ambrosi from Stow-on-the-Wold one of the country's finest places to eat in summer 2023.

The restaurant was set up by husband and wife duo Andrew and Jesse D’Ambrosi, and it took the pair a while to help those understand their concept.

They deliver to people's homes but also can provide scented candles and floral arrangements.

Mr D’Ambrosi said: "I think when we first opened, people did not know what we were or what we did.

"We are doing something special, and to be recognised because we are so niche is really special.

"It has been an uphill battle to define us, and it wasn't until lockdown people got the concept."

Mrs D’Ambrosi added: "It is wonderful - we are thrilled."

The Times list names the best 49 places to eat in the UK in summer 2023.

The deli was chosen by Tom Noest and Peter Creed, the restaurateurs behind the Bell Inn in Langford and the Lamb Inn in Shipton.

The Times said: "We want to throw this in as a “restaurant cheat” – it’s a great deli that does the best takeaway picnics.

"The fried chicken and shrimp rolls are epic.

"Eat in a field for an unbeatable view and meal."

D’Ambrosi reached number 22 on the list and was praised for using local, responsibly sourced, sustainable food to develop its extensive range of dishes.

The Times list has been compiled thanks to Britain’s best chefs and restaurateurs who help reveal secret supper clubs, hidden farms and perfect pub gardens to go to this summer.

They said they do not have time to celebrate their win and said it has driven them to thrive even more.
