A DRUNKEN thug bit two police officers, claiming he reacted when they 'pushed his face into the mud' so he 'couldn't breathe'.

Jordan Porter, already in custody, tried to walk out of the prison video link booth when he learned he was going to get a custodial sentence for the attacks on the officers in Evesham.

The drunk man, who had six previous convictions for 12 offences including ABH, claimed he bit the officers after his face was pushed in the mud.

However, no prison officers came and he was forced to listen to his sentence being announced by the chairman of the bench, Tim Morris.

The 24-year-old, previously of Holly Close, Bretforton, admitted two charges of assault by beating of an emergency worker - PC Ciriello and PC Boon - on New Year's Eve, 2021 when he appeared over videolink at Worcester Magistrates Court on Thursday.

He further admitted to driving a Peugeot without insurance and otherwise than in accordance with a licence on Christmas Day 2021 and again on December 29, 2021.

Aleigha Adams, prosecuting, said when officers arrived to arrest Porter he was 'heavily intoxicated and resisting going into the prison van' and 'acting in a disorderly manner and displaying paranoid behaviour'.

"He becomes increasingly aggressive and actively resists and attempts to lash out and run away from officers," said Miss Adams.

During the course of the struggle, Porter was taken to the floor where he 'continued to be aggressive' while officers made 'several attempts to calm the defendant down'.

He was described as lunging at PC Booth and biting his lower arm, causing 'immediate pain', the bite leaving 'reddening and bruising'. He then bit the other officer on the left wrist.

One of the officers said: "He showed no remorse and for another 20 minutes he had to be restrained on the floor."

Amer Hussain, defending, described him as being in an emotional state due to other issues the police had attended for.

He added: "Having been arrested he is taken to the ground. His face is pushed into the floor and into the mud. He was struggling to breathe."

Mr Hussain told the court Porter was resisting not so he could remain obstructive but 'because they were physically hurting him', reminding them his client had pleaded guilty at the first available opportunity.

"The skin does not appear to have been broken," he said.

Magistrates sentenced Porter to 28 weeks in prison - 16 weeks for each attack.

Porter was further ordered to pay £100 in compensation to each officer.

No order was made for costs or a victim surcharge. They added eight penalty points to his licence for the driving offences and banned him from driving as a totter.
