FRUSTRATED and angry residents who fear their village will be destroyed by a homes plan protested outside council offices.

They fear the 100-home proposal in Plough Meadow could destroy Tibberton because of a lack of infrastructure in the village to support an influx of people.

Dozens of residents arrived with placards at the Pershore Civic Centre on Queen Elizabeth Drive in Pershore before the planning appeal hearing at 10am.

Residents said the village has no shop and a small narrow road along with a Grade II listed canal bridge they are concerned could collapse with the added weight of cars.

Luxury housing developers Mactaggart and Mickel have put the proposals forward.

The plan also includes a new car park for the pub and claims it "will create on-site open space and recreation including sports provision, children’s play spaces, walking and cycling routes and green infrastructure".

The homes would be built on the land next to the village’s Plough Road and north of Evelench Lane near the Speed the Plough pub.

Valerie Smith, age 76, was born in Tibberton, and so were her children, grandchildren, parents and grandparents.

Mrs Smith said they were christened and married in the village's church.

"It is going to destroy our village," she said.

"There will be many people. Street lighting, which we never had in the village -  it is just going to ruin it.

"I fear for my daughter and granddaughter who will inherit the house when I go and the situation for them is going to be far worse."

The parish council said the village has already met all its new housing obligations under the  South Worcestershire Development Plan.

Trevor Knight, from Tibberton Parish Council, said: "The importance of today is to try to put a stop to a completely, in our opinion, inconceivable plan proposed on an unsuitable site.

"Not only will it actually ruin the character of the village itself but also in a site which has no local bus services, no shop, no bank, no doctors, no underpinning services to support a development like this."

Plans were initially submitted on July 12, 2022, with an appeal lodged by the applicants on May 11, 2023.

There is yet to be a date for a final decision.
