They said: “Two Evesham Fire Station crews and the water carrier attended land off Peewit Road.

"The fire spread to approximately 12 tonnes of hay bales and crews used two hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

“A large tree then fell onto the bales, which were still smouldering, and needed cutting away to gain access.

“An Urban Search and Rescue crew from Droitwich joined the incident at 11.14pm to help remove the tree.

“Firefighters, who were joined by a relief crew from Pebworth, then used pitchforks to dig out the bales.

“The Pebworth crew tackled several seats of fire in the bales overnight and were joined by Worcester at 4.59am today to dampen down and turn over the area.

“An Evesham crew returned at 7.50am to make good progress and were still at the scene at 12.50pm using positive pressure ventilation.

“The police were informed of the incident due to multiple previous calls out to the area.”
