A PERSHORE air cadet has received a prestigious national award.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Jessica Williams, of 233 (Pershore) Squadron RAFAC, has received the Westminster Award.

The House of Lords hosted the award ceremony which celebrates the outstanding accomplishments of cadets from across the UK.

The Westminster Award recognises exemplary cadets/youth members from various groups, including Air, Army, Sea, St John Ambulance and the Scouts.

Nominees undergo a rigorous selection process, including nominations, written submissions, a demanding four-day event in Somerset, and an exciting two-week expedition in Cornwall during the summer.

Jessica emerged as one of the final 15 finalists nationally, with only five representing the Air Cadets.

She was judged to have exceptional leadership, dedication, and problem-solving abilities which set her apart during the selection process - earning her place among the top 15 finalists.

This achievement granted her an invitation to the Cornwall expedition, where she engaged in thrilling activities such as coasteering, kayaking, snorkeling, and surfing.

And she also collaborated with local charities, including the RNLI, Shelterbox, the National Trust and Cornwall Wildlife Trust.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Jessica Williams shared her immense gratitude and described the programme's staff as "amazing and friendly".

She lauded her fellow finalists as "some of the most amazing people I have met" and added the expedition enabled her to gain profound insights into her own character and push her limits in ways she had never imagined.

Acting Pilot Officer Alex Coombe, the Squadron Training Officer said: "Cadet Flight Sergeant Jessica Williams serves as a shining example of the personal development and success within the Air Cadets.

"Her achievements underscore the remarkable journey of numerous young people who discover inspiration and growth within the cadet forces.

"Her recognition at the House of Lords serves as a testament to the outstanding opportunities that the Air Cadets provide for youth across the UK, empowering them to attain excellence and make a positive impact on their local communities."

The Westminister Award is organised by the Cadet Vocational College and offers cadets unique opportunities to translate their experiences into real-world qualifications such as the BTEC L2 in Teamwork and Personal Development or an ILM L3.
