FATHER Christmas is set to save the festive period for scores of Evesham families this year.

Kyle Hotchkins will be putting on a red suit and white beard to help families struggling to pay for presents, food and bills this Christmas.

The 36-year-old had the idea of helping families last year after coming across a bit of money and wanting to share it with people.

Mr Hotchkins said he never realised how many families struggle around Christmas with all sorts of payments and, as a result, decided he would be back this year to provide financial and gift support.

"It is a sad world we live in.

"My daughters are 17 and 12, and when they open their presents on Christmas morning, I want everyone to do the same.

"If they are enjoying their Christmas dinner - I want people to do the same.

"Some places I was delivering to genuinely made me cry due to the situations they were in."

Unfortunately, he only had two weeks before Christmas Day last year to help those in need but he said this year, a lot more organisation is going into it.

Last year, Mr Hotchkins paid for some families' electricity and gas, a month's worth of food shopping to purchase one household's first Christmas crackers to open on the special day.

"It was amazing, and I had loads of letters from families and children," he added.

So far, 33 children are on his list for a Christmas present, and this list is expected to climb closer to Christmas.

He also plans to deliver the presents as Father Christmas.

"I just don't think people realise (the need for help).

"22 years ago, when I was back at school, we made shoe boxes to send to Africa, and now there are people struggling one street away."

Mr Hotchkins has set up a GoFundMe and an Amazon wishlist for people who may wish to contribute to any of the costs.

For struggling families, Mr Hotchkins has urged them to message him on 07908799170.
