A MINI tornado caused havoc in a small village not far from Stow-on-the-Wold. 

Trees were pulled up and homes were damaged as the mini tornado hit the eastern side of Condicote village. 

The tornado hit at 7.45pm on the night of October 28. 

Villager Christine Wynn said: "The inhabitants of the quiet village are still in shock after a small tornado, with an enormous roaring sound, tore through the village.

"Trees were uprooted, sheds lifted and carried yards, and smashed along with the contents.

"Glass houses were smashed and twisted, slates off houses on the Eastern side were torn away and property severely damaged."

The villager said within seconds of it hit power went off plummeting 200 properties into darkness while ferocious gusts of rain hit them.

"Two inches fell during the evening," she said.

"The cables of a transformer had been ripped off and wound around poles.

"The National Grid workmen said they had not seen anything like it before. They were able to restore power by 6.30pm. 

"The tornado carried on across open fields until creating a path of flattened trees in some woodland.

"No one was hurt.

"Luckily a horse was not in the stable that was smashed by falling trees and a child's rabbit and cage blown into fields was safely recovered."
