A STAR-STUDDED line-up has been announced for the Broadway Christmas light switch-on event.

Jake Wood, better known as his character Max Branning in the BBC series Eastenders, will kickstart Christmas in the village by switching on its festive lights.

It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Broadway as preparations are hotting up for their annual switch on tomorrow (Saturday).

The actor, also known for his dancing debut on Strictly Come Dancing, will be there to flick the switch at 5.30pm.

Councillor Elizabeth Wilks, chair of the Broadway Parish Council, said: "This year we are lucky to have Jake Wood, who you will recognise from Eastenders and Strictly, who will lead the countdown to turn on the Christmas Tree, followed by the Village Voices choir to entertain us as the rest of the lights are switched on across Broadway.

"We would like you to thank our incredible Christmas Lights Volunteer Team, who come out in all weathers, in high vis and climb ladders and cherry pickers, all voluntarily!

"The Volunteer team, run by Peter Reading, does the most magnificent job transforming Broadway at Christmas, and we would like to pay special attention and thanks to them.

"Also, a big thank you to not only the Broadway Business Association and Broadway Parish Council for funding the lights.

"A thank you also to the donors of both the lights in general and this beautiful Christmas tree."

In the following weeks, Broadway will be hosting its late-night Christmas shopping evenings, where Father Christmas and his reindeer will be in attendance.

The late-night shopping will occur on November 24 and December 1 from 5pm to 8.30pm.

The shopping nights will also feature music, mulled wine and festive food.
