Police responding to shoplifting concerns in an Evesham shop caught a man in possession of drugs.

PC Matt Beards and PC Adam Johns stopped the man from trying to steal an item from the town centre store.

“He was searched for further items and a quantity of drugs was located on his person,” said PC Beards. “This male will be dealt with formally in due course.”

The officers had been on foot patrol in Evesham in response to concerns raised over drug use and shoplifting in the area.

They were in a shop that has been the target of shoplifting and anti-social behaviour when a member of the public told them two men were trying to hide from them at the back of the shop.

PC Beards added: “It is the aim of the Evesham Safer Neighbourhood Team to continue to try and deter and disrupt this type of behaviour moving forward, and be robust in dealing with offenders when they commit these offences.”
