Students in Pershore have held a series of fundraising activities with the goal of making sure children in need get a present this Christmas.

The fundraising activities was organised by 22 health and social care students at Pershore College in support of the annual Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child campaign, which aims to provide gifts to children in need across the world.

These activities included a charity morning at the college, where students donned fancy dress outfits, baked and held a cake sale, tombola, and played games.

Staff and students alike supported the cause to raise a total of £225.

The funds were used to assemble 26 shoeboxes, which they wrapped and filled with items such as hats, gloves, toiletries, notebooks, pens and toys.

These boxes, each of which also required a £5 donation amounting to £130 of the total funds raised, will be distributed to children across the globe by Samaritan’s Purse.

Evesham Journal: £225 was raised by the students

Julie Mayo of Pershore College spoke of the students' achievements, saying: "The students all did incredibly well during the project and created 26 shoeboxes which will make a real difference to children’s lives this Christmas.

“Careers in health and social care often involve thinking about the needs of others and having empathy, and this project was a fantastic way for students to demonstrate these attributes.

“The project was completely student-led, right from sharing ideas on fundraising ideas to wrapping and filling the boxes, and they all worked very well together.

“There was also no financial outlay, and students had to collect donations and raise funds to fill the shoeboxes.

She concluded: “I’m very proud of all of the students and what they have achieved.”
