A 44-YEAR-old woman has been banned from getting behind the wheel after being caught drink driving.

Nikoletta Szabo appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to the offence when it was put to her by the court clerk.

Eleanor Peart, prosecuting, said Szabo was caught drink driving a Volkswagen Jetta Index on Station Road, Salford Priors, on November 18 this year.

The prosecutor said the defendant's driving caught his eye as she swerved in the road.

After being stopped she failed a roadside breathalyser test.

The defendant was taken to the police station where she provided an evidential sample of 90 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit being 35mcg.

Szabo, who defended herself and spoke through a Hungarian interpreter, explained to the court she had been at a birthday party and the original plan had been to spend the night there.

"Everybody drunk too much," Szabo told the court.

"I didn't feel well so decided to go home."

The defendant, of Old School Mead, Bidford-on-Avon, Alcester, and formerly of St Mary's Road, Evesham, tearfully added she had been driving for 26 years and it had never happened before.

Peter Cound, chairman of the magistrates bench, told Szabo she was being disqualified for 22 months.

She was offered the chance to take the drink-drive awareness course which, if she successfully completes, will reduce the ban length by 22 weeks.

Szabo will also fined £461 and ordered to pay costs of £135 and victim surcharge of £184.

The chairman told the defendant to pay the total amount, £780, in full within 28 days - but told her she could speak to the fines office to arrange a payment plan if she was not able to pay the amount in full in that time.
