LEGENDARY sportswoman Fatima Whitbread is coming to Evesham’s Regal Cinema in the summer.

The former world champion javelin thrower, who won two Olympic medals, will be in town on Friday, June 21.

An Evening with Fatima Whitbread will also include a charity auction, raising money for Fatima’s UK Campaign, Rotary in the Vale, Sightsavers and Evesham and District Mental Health Support Services.

Whitbread became the first British athlete to set a world record in a throwing event in 1986 and a year later won gold at the World Championships.

1987 also saw her given an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours and named BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Organiser Sam Bastow said: “We are pleased that Fatima has agreed to come to Evesham for this charity event as she is an inspiration to so many people.

“From being abandoned as a baby to then going on becoming a world record holder is out of this world.

“This charity night is going to raise thousands for great causes and we cannot wait.”

The evening will include stories from throughout Whitbread’s remarkable life, including her tumultuous childhood, becoming a world champion.

She will even share tales from her stint on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, when she famously got a bug stuck up her nose.

As well as standard tickets, there are also meet and greet opportunities available for the evening.

All tickets can be bought via the Regal box office.

Organisers are also looking for businesses to sponsor the charity event with packages starting from £100.

Wish and Wonka are among the movies currently being shown at the Regal, with Napoleon, The Great Escaper and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom coming up in the New Year.

Live shows for 2024 including the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain, Gail Porter’s Hung Drawn and Portered and An Evening with Lady Colin Campbell.
