THE legacy of a popular market will continue after stallholders rallied together to set up their own version.

Customers far and wide had shared their sadness after hearing the news that Pershore Market would officially be closing for good after Aldi bought the site.

Out of the ashes of the market, stallholders have now rallied together to open up their own mini 'market' called Pershore Emporium, which will be on the High Street.

The store will feature eight businesses in one space and share the same atmosphere as the market.

Andrea Czink, owner of Harrods Vintage Teddy Bears and one of the organisers setting up the new store, said: "We want to continue its legacy, and people get the same feeling walking into the shop as they would in the market.

"People from Pershore Market wanted to carry on trading together.

"It is delightful that something like this has happened to us, and we get to stay trading in Pershore."

Harrods Vintage Teddy Bears, Ashmead Gifts (The Christmas Shop), Pershore Crafters, Pershore Mobility, Ruebens, Lucky Fox Illustrations and Something Special Framing will be selling items in the store.

Pershore Market officially closed on December 30, and Ms Czink said it is lovely that some traders can still be together out of the sadness of the closure.

"It was just really saddening when we heard the news that the market will be closing," she added.

"There became this big concern of what are we going to do or where are we going to go."

Pershore Emporium will open this Saturday (January 13) and will be open seven days a week.

According to the leader of Wychavon District Council, councillor Bradley Thomas, Aldi's plan to open a store in Pershore will kick-start a wider transformation of the town centre.

This came after council officers met with supermarket representatives in June following the announcement they had purchased the indoor market off King George's Way.

Simon Glover, real estate director at Aldi, said: "An Aldi store in Pershore will bring new jobs and footfall to the town centre, as well as providing more choice for shoppers, with high-quality products at low prices.

"We look forward to working collaboratively with the council and local people in Pershore to develop a scheme that positively contributes to the town centre and wider community."
